The work of former Carnegie-CDAC Research Scientist Olga Degtyareva on the high pressure phase of sulphur was the inspiration for one of the movements of a recently debuted string trio piece, "In Extremis," composed by Scottish musician Julian Wagstaff. Olga's work with sulphur began over 7 years ago while she was at Carnegie and was first published in Nature Materials in 2005. She is currently a research scientist at the University of Edinburgh and was the 2010 EHPRG Award recipient. More information on "In Extremis" can be found here.
