ZFSP 2017: Workshop and User Meeting: Fundamental Science With Pulsed Power

July 16-19, 2017
Albuquerque, NM

Pending approval, the 8th Fundamental Science with Pulsed Power: Research Opportunities and User Meeting will be held in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Sunday, July 16 (evening) through Wednesday, July 19 (all day), 2017. The venue has yet to be determined.

The user meeting component is for collaborative users to present the status of their research and to hear about the Z accelerator facility status and plans. Presentations by Sandia scientists will provide relevant information concerning facility capabilities, including experimental platforms, targets, and diagnostics. Current collaborative research areas are Astrophysics, Planetary Science, Materials Physics, and Magnetized High Energy Density (HED) Science that is relevant to Magnetized Inertial Fusion (MagLIF).  The second component of the workshop provides an opportunity for current and prospective future collaborators to discuss research directions and ideas for new work on Z. The workshop coincides with the next call for proposals. We plan to issue a call for proposals on June 15, 2017 for experiments on Z for the time period April 1, 2018 to March 30, 2020. The call for proposal will close September 15, 2017.

In addition to the aforementioned topics, there may also be a breakout session on the topic of high-fidelity simulations of Z experiments. This break-out session would include discussions of future needs and research directions in multi-physics codes and algorithms. Please contact the organizers for comments on this suggestion as well as suggestions of other topics.
